First Week
Getting in the water and getting moving
Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of Anchoring is Free, documenting Jan and I’s (Teo) expedition this summer sailing around the Eastern Seaboard for the month of June. This blog will mostly serve as a photo dump so don’t expect The Dish style prologues, but I will try and keep you all in the loop as we progress up to Maine and back to the boat’s home port of Old Lyme CT later this month. It’s been a hectic week involving lots of driving, a car getting towed, multiple graduations, rewiring of the entire electrical system and frantically painting and preparing a boat for the next few weeks, but nevertheless spirits are high.
After getting the boat in the water in Wareham Massachusetts we started heading back West, so I could attend my long overdue graduation from Connecticut College. While I was off reconnecting with my class of 2020 Jan bravely took on the challenge of rewiring the boats electrical system to tackle some issues that had plagued us over the last few days, but was rewarded with this brilliant double rainbow sunset on Fishers Island.
Some other highlights of the trip so far have been seeing a baby humpback whale breaching off the coast of Rhode Island on Friday morning, and an idyllic sunset in Cuttyhunk Harbor Thursday night.
As you might’ve guessed from the title of this blog we have been anchoring alongside morning fields so far throughout this trip to avoid fees, but the next leg of our journey takes us to Boston where such fees become unfortunately unavoidable. From there we venture on to Portland with the help of some friends hopping on the boat for the weekend. I can’t say definitively when the next post will be uploaded but hopefully I’ll have some stories to share when we arrive in Maine. I’ll leave you with a photo of my writing station here in Block Island where we are anchored for the night.

wow the apparent joy is just radiating off of his face 😍😍
